Operation Sindoor

On 6th may 2025 a huge operation was launhed by Indian Army named “operation sindoor” which was against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied kashmir. The action was taken in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, in which 26 civilians, including Indian tourists and a Nepali national, were killed.

Main Points:

Targets : India attacked a total of 9 locations – 4 in Pakistan and 5 in PoJK. These include areas like Muridke and Bahawalpur, which are considered strongholds of terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Weapons Used : Indain airforce used precision guided missiles like SCALP and HAMMER.In thisoperation Only terrorist spots were targeted, no Pakistani Army location was attacked.

Significance: This is India’s deepest military action on Pakistani soil since the 1971 war.

Reactions:

Pakistan called it an “act of war” and confirmed that eight civilians were killed and more than 35 injured. Pakistan claims it shot down five Indian fighter jets, which India denies.

Counter-attack: Pakistan opened fire across the border, causing some civilian casualties on the Indian side as well.

International reaction: Many global leaders, including the US and the United Nations, have expressed concern and appealed to both countries to exercise restraint.

Impact in India:

Many airports in northern India like Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar and Chandigarh have been closed as a precautionary measure.

Political parties and the public have supported the operation and expressed solidarity against terrorism.

The situation is still tense and the armies of both countries are on high alert.
